The Westmont Garden was started 8 years ago by former Westmont alumni with the intention of bringing students into contact with the art of growing food. Since then, it has grown to an acre of land, and has acquired a beehive and a flock of chickens. It hosts classes for educational purposes as well as volunteers through our Garden Club. Local volunteers, seeking beauty and healing in a natural setting full of life’s growth cycles are more than welcome to join in. The produce grown is served in Westmont’s Dining Commons, and given to garden volunteers. Our garden guide, Kenny Chism, stepped into the manager role after graduating with a Biology degree 2017.
While growing up, Kenny lived in a home with limited outdoor space to grow a vegetable and herb garden. And so it was during his freshman year, when he started volunteering in the Westmont Garden that his passion for working with plants was ignited. Watching seeds sprout and grow into fruit bearing plants, continues to instill a sense of magic and beauty in the organic garden, which Kenny loves to share with garden visitors
