Jeanne is passionate about quality care and support of seniors, and that includes discussing “touchy topics” such as advance health care planning and end-of-life wishes. Please come with an open spirit and a heart ready to listen, think about future care issues, and take a personal interest in having these important conversations now. 

HEARING AID CLEANING SERVICE

Dave Morris will lead Current Events on November 15, and as we will deal with the news from the 10 days previous, we will focus on the results and likely consequences of the midterm elections held November 6. Dave has his BA and MA [History] from UCSB, has taught at the high school, college and senior [Continuing Education/Lifelong Learning] levels for the past 40+ years, and has been a resident of the Santa Barbara area since 1969.

NELSON HOWARD RESIDENT LECTURE SERIES:
THE BEAUTY, USES & DIVERSITY OF SEAWEED

Friday, November 9 - 4:30 pm - Auditorium. Please join us to hear Dr. Larry Liddle, Professor (Emeritus) Biology & Marine Science, share with us what is fascinating about seaweed, a subject that has been his life’s work and passion. Larry has traveled the world studying these simple-seeming but yet complex marine organisms. He will share vignettes — and photos — of his work which started in Woods Hole, Massachusetts and our very own California Coastal community, and has taken him to Puerto Rico, China, the Mediterranean, Germany, Japan, Indonesia and Thailand. Learn about uses for seaweed that are creative, delicious, economical, and beneficial for our environment. The ever-creative Chef Michael will present menu options the evening of November 9, to 'pair' with our Nelson Howard lecture topic of "Seaweed." Please also let us know if you have suggestions of topics or of residents for future lectures. The life-stories and passions of Casa residents are a true adventure and fascinating! 

SANTA BARBARA SYMPHONY TALK WITH SAÏD RAMÓN ARAÏZA

OPERA SANTA BARBARA - “LA BOHEME”

Sunday, November 11 - Bus Departs at 2:00pm. Don't miss your chance to experience one of opera's most romantic musical dramas, wrapped up in Puccini's achingly beautiful melody. Omer Ben Seadia directs and OSB Artistic & General Director Kostis Protopapas conducts the Opera Santa Barbara Orchestra and Chorus. SANTA BARBARA ZOO ADVENTURE

Tuesday, November 27 - Bus Departs at 10:30am. Join us for trip to the Santa Barbara Zoo, where you can spend time watching more than 500 animals exhibited in open, naturalistic habitats. Don’t miss the zoo’s Snow Leopard, Western Lowland Gorilla, California Condor, Chilean Pink Flamingos, and the hilarious Slender-tailed Meerkats, as well as many, many more! Our tour will also feature Interactive Zoo Encounters where a few of the animals will come out of their enclosures, so you can have a closer view, as the Zoo staff are on hand to share more details about each, in addition to answering questions you may have. For those who wish, golf-cart transportation can be provided. Cost for this trip is $43.75, to be billed, and includes admission, parking, interactive zoo encounters and a train ride around the zoo.
