MINDFULNESS WITH DR. SHERMAN
Wednesdays, November 8 & 22 10:30 am - Education Center. This easy-to-learn skill enables us to have more insight, self-acceptance and self-control. We can reduce tension, feel calmer and more optimistic. And, when combined with the emerging findings from positive psychology, we can choose to act in the most healthy and fulfilling ways. In partnership with UCSB Arts & Lectures, we invite you to a presentation by Pulitzer Prize-winning Presidential Historian, Jon Meacham, who is one of America’s most prominent public intellectuals. CERAMIC MARDI-GRAS MASK CLASS
Thursdays, December 7 & 14 - 1:30 pm - Ceramics Studio. Come and join us for a fun new ceramic class taught by Casa resident and artist, Barbara Hume, and Activities Assistant, Chialee Yeh. Classes are being held on the above-mentioned days, and will continue into January. We are planning to have the masks ready by February 13, in time for our new Mardi-Gras Mask exhibition in the Dining Room Lobby. Surprise! For those who participate in creating a mask for this exhibition, there is no cost, so come and join us, and sign up in the Mail Room TODAY!
Monday, November 6 - 11:00 am - Great Hall. Join Casa resident Nancy Spivey on her monthly half-hour walking tour, which may help new and current residents to familiarize themselves with Casa buildings and grounds. The optional lunch following the tour is an opportunity to meet fellow residents.

CRIME TIPS FOR SENIORS PRESENTATION
Monday, November 13 - 4:30 pm - Auditorium. Join us for an important and informative presentation by Senior Deputy District Attorney, Vicki Johnson, with the Santa Barbara County DA’s Office. She will discuss telemarketing and internet scams operating in our community, including the fake kidnapping scam, sweetheart scams, the utilities scam, the tech support scam and several others. Vicki will also warn us of the purse-snatching rings operating in our local supermarkets, and how to avoid identity theft. She will share “war stories” of cases she, and other attorneys in her office have prosecuted. Please sign up in the Mail Room, if you plan to attend this event.

FRIENDSHIP CENTER'S 19th ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF HEARTS PROJECT
Beginning Mondays & Wednesdays in December. 1:30 pm - Painting Studio. Casa Dorinda residents and staff are invited to participate in the Friendship Center’s 19th Annual Festival of Hearts, by decorating papier-mâché hearts to be sold in the event’s silent auction. This year’s theme is “The Queen of Hearts Tea Party,“ and as always, it is optional to use the theme in your heart-art. Proceeds from the sale of the hearts will go to the Friendship Center, a non-profit adult daycare facility whose mission is to preserve and enrich the quality of life for aging and dependent adults, through innovative programs that value the dignity and worth of every person. If you would like to participate by creating a one-of-a-kind heart, please sign up in the Mail Room. We have fun materials for your use in the studio.
